they’re making their way into the soffit nest again 🙂 it means babies are coming soon and that she still trusts me even through the frantic separation the mouse in the air duct and I caused in the Spring.

Through some turmoil and sleepless nights due to a mouse chewing I placed a blockade in the soffit accsess one morning believing, at that time in a groggy state of mind, the sound to be caused by the squirrel I had watched moving leaves and limbs into the soffit in the days leading up to the noise. A frantic mama squirrel behavior let me quickly know that there were babies inside that I had unknowingly separated her from. I removed the blockade and she soon began moving her sleeping babies one by one to another nest in a nearby tree. We shared safe space afterwards and we moved forward. Just past sunset that evening I heard the chewing sound again and located the mouse releasing it from the air return. Confirming my belief of safe symbiosis today brought a sense of joy in our continuing progress.
